Since its inception in 2019, T21 has strived to create the largest body of evidence for the safety and efficacy of medical cannabis, providing patients with access to affordable treatment while contributing vital data to the field. Here’s a brief overview of its key achievements and why its continuation is essential:
1. Large UK Patient Registry for Medical Cannabis
T21 has created a large registry of medical cannabis patients in the UK. It has gathered real-world data on over 4,500 patients with conditions like chronic pain, anxiety, PTSD, epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis. This data is crucial for driving scientific understanding of how cannabis can be used safely and effectively across a range of conditions. The data collected from patients has led to multiple important publications, offering valuable insights into the impact of medical cannabis on various health conditions. These publications can be accessed here, showcasing the project’s transparency and dedication to advancing the field through evidence-based research.
2. Affordability and Access
T21 has broken barriers by offering patients access to medical cannabis at a reduced cost, addressing financial challenges that often prevent patients from seeking alternative treatments. By enabling patients to access cannabis affordably, T21 has made strides in normalising its use in medical practice.
3. Contributing to Legal and Policy Changes
The data generated by T21 are providing an evidence base to challenge outdated policies. As more patients report symptom reduction and improved quality of life, this evidence can be used to advocate for government bodies and medical organisations to recognise it as a legitimate treatment option even a first line treatment option.
4. Improving Patient Quality of Life
Many T21 patients have reported significant improvements in their symptoms and overall quality of life. By empowering individuals to access alternative treatments that work for them, T21 has opened up new possibilities for those whose conditions were previously considered difficult to manage.
Why Continued Support is Critical
T21 is paving the way for a future where medical cannabis is better understood and more widely accepted. The continuation of this project is essential.
Ongoing Research: As the project expands, more data can be collected, leading to a deeper understanding of cannabis’s therapeutic potential.
Influencing Policy: The evidence generated by T21 could lead to more progressive medical cannabis policies across the UK.
Patient Advocacy: T21 continues to give patients a voice, highlighting the importance of patient-centered care and access to treatments that work.
By continuing to support T21, we can drive further change in the field of medical cannabis and ensure that patients are able to access safe, effective, and affordable treatments.
